Almost every writer out there, experienced or not, will tell you how hard it is to find a home for your science fiction or fantasy novel, as most publishers don’t specialise in specific genres. It is very easy to get lost in the mess of the enormous volume of submissions made all year round. There are several publishing companies which accept unsolicited manuscripts, where you can send in your work for consideration.

However, finding a publisher for your work can be a daunting task. Below is a list of a few companies which offer writers an opportunity to have their work released. The odds for acceptance are high, but most of these publishers will follow through with those they chose.

Immanion Press

Immanion Press has been in existence for the last 16 years. The company accepts submissions on different genres, but it has a slight bias for horror and fiction. The publisher is generally open-minded and prides itself on its flexibility in accepting literary works that have something fresh for the readers.

Flame Tree Press

This London-based company accepts fantasy, science fiction, horror and crime genre manuscripts. The advantage with Flame Tree Press is the fact that you don’t have to have an agent, you can directly send your submission via email. Once in a while, they call for an anthology submission, and their pay is quite decent.

Baen

To be accepted by Baen, your manuscript must be between 100000 and 130000 words. They, however, take shorter works, but these must be exceptionally well written. Baen prefers you to send a full manuscript accompanied by a synopsis. They take as much as a year to respond. Fun fact about Baen is that they make their electronic advanced readers copies, (eARCs), available to fans before the official release date of a book.

Some of these publishers have submission windows which should be clearly stated in their guidelines. Browse through the instructions before submitting.
